We have used the Easter holidays to switch to a much more dedicated server. While others were enjoying the holidays, we have spent the days in configuring and transferring the content to a new server. It took a lot of time and nerves, but it paid off, as all the users noticed the increase in the performance and quicker page opening. They also received more space on the disk while the transfer itself was not felt in any way.
Hardware specifications of the server:
- Intel® Xeon® E3-1230v2
- Quad-Core, 4x 3,7 GHz
- 32GB DDR3 RAM
- 2x 500GB SSD
- 1 Gbit/s
DataDock datacenter
Couple of words on the datacenter
The server is located in a converted port warehouse in Strasbourg, a city located on the border of France and Germany. PlusServer Gmbh, the operator, has started with works in 2007, and the datacenter was in an operational status in 2010.
The datacenter is in an ideal location: all IT and Telco lines go through Strasbourg, which guarantees excellent connectivity, and the position in the heart of Europe promises equal performance to all EU users. Besides, the data center is located in one of the largest groundwater systems in Europe, and this water is used to cool off the data center. This cooling system (a unique technology in itself) is so efficient that it makes this one of the greenest, if not the greenest datacenter in Europe. Lower cooling costs at the end mean lower hosting prices.
